Dealing with name calling (Q&A) PDF Print E-mail

Dear Sue,

My 10 year old daughter is very upset because a boy at school calls her "Cheesehead" because our last name sounds similar.  What should I do?

Debbie (Portland)

Hi, Debbie

Tell your daughter the rule, "Kids Tease."  They really do.  It is not about her and she does not need to be upset.  She can take control by ignoring him, or kidding him back by saying: 1. "Get outta here." 2. "Whatever." (with eye roll) OR 3. "I love cheese!"
