Looks at a person who is talking to him/her
Uses "hi," "bye," and "please," with reminders
Engages in simple make believe play with dolls, animals, and people
Protests when frustrated
Directs another's attention to an object or action
Seeks attention
Brings toys to share with parent
Initiates social contact with others either verbally or non-verbally
Acts out a familiar activity in play (pretending to eat breakfast)
Competes with other children for toys
Seeks praise/response from others
Increasingly enthusiastic about the company of other children
Seems selfish at times
Explores surroundings
Laughs at silly labels of objects and events (calling a head a toe)
Acts shy around strangers
Uses “me, mine”
Uses non-verbal communication to show intent- to request, to draw attention to self, to show dislike, to indicate pleasure
Uses inflection in tone of voice (falling tone for dislike)
Begins to judge quality of language (polite vs. impolite)
Uses verbal turn-taking
Begins to engage in dialogue
