    Social Skills Milestones: 3-4 years 

  • Imitates adults, siblings, and playmates
  • Learns to take turns in games
  • Understands “mine, his, hers 
  • Spontaneously shows affection for playmates
  • Uses more cooperative/interactive play
  • Begins to understand other’s feelings based on facial expressions or  behaviors
  • Comforts a distressed friend or parent
  • Treats doll or stuffed animal as though it were alive
  • Shows awareness of parental approval/disapproval
  • Asks for permission
  • Uses greetings and farewells
  • Indicates beginning of communication: “Hey Mary”
  • States rules: “I go first”
  • Makes simple jokes and teases “You can’t have this”
