Social Skills: 2-3 years - Looks at a person who is talking to him/her
- Uses "hi," "bye," and "please," with reminders
- Engages in simple make believe play with dolls, animals, and people
- Protests when frustrated
- Directs another's attention to an object or action
- Seeks attention
- Brings toys to share with parent
- Initiates social contact with others either verbally or non-verbally
- Acts out a familiar activity in play (pretending to eat breakfast)
- Competes with other children for toys
- Seeks praise/response from others
- Increasingly enthusiastic about the company of other children
- Seems selfish at times
- Explores surroundings
- Laughs at silly labels of objects and events (calling a head a toe)
- Acts shy around strangers
- Uses “me, mine”
- Uses non-verbal communication to show intent- to request, to draw attention to self, to show dislike, to indicate pleasure
- Uses inflection in tone of voice (falling tone for dislike)
- Begins to judge quality of language (polite vs. impolite)
- Uses verbal turn-taking
- Begins to engage in dialogue
